Blessed be the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Welcome.Let us study the Word of God.
Is there difference between the baptism of Jesus and that of John?
There is actually no difference in the way both conducted baptism. However, what distinguishes the baptism of Jesus from the one done by John is the “NAME” into which the former was done.
Before the coming of Jesus, people made prayers and supplication among other acts without invoking any name because they had not been instructed so by God.Also when John(the Baptist)came with the new revelation of baptism,he did baptise people without using any name.As soon as the people had sincerely repented of their sins ,they were baptized by being immersed and coming up out the water,as a sign of their being cleansed; without mentioning any name.
Upon Jesus’ coming, things changed.Anything that is dedicated to God must be done in the name of Jesus.
Colossians 3:17;” And whatsoever you do in WORD or DEED,do all IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
Following these instructions, the apostles and other disciples of John began using the name of Jesus in all they said and did.
For instance, the apostles invoked the name of the Lord Jesus in their prayers, and supplications and sermons. When they went out to heal the sick ,pray for the needy and to cast out demons, they it all in the name of Jesus.
Mark 16:17;” And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils;they shall speak with new tongues.”
Similarly, when they went to preach and teach the people, the apostles taught in the name of Jesus.
Luke 24:46-47;” And said unto them,Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer and rise from the dead the third day:
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nation’s, beginning at Jerusalem.”
Also read(refer to) Acts 4:18.
Among the deeds that the name of Jesus was used was baptism.John and his disciples baptized people by immersing them into water after which they had repented. But did not use any name before. However when Jesus came,he instructed everything meant to be godly be done in his name.John’s disciples therefore took to the new way of baptizing people as the Lord had commanded. They began baptising in the name of Jesus.
Acts 2:37-38;” Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles,Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Even today, baptism must be in the name of the Lord Jesus for it to be fruitful. For this reason, Apostle Paul told the believers at Ephesus to be baptized afresh in the name of Jesus even though they had been baptised in John’s baptism.
Acts 19:1-6;” And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth,Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus:and finding certain disciples,
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him,We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
And he said unto them,Unto what then we’re ye baptised? And they said,Unto John’s baptism.
Then said Paul,John verily baptised with the baptism of repentance, saying unto people, that they should believe in him which come after him, that is,on Jesus Christ.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.”
Dear brethren reading this message, put it in mind that unless you are baptized in the right form of baptism having known the truth,it means that you have rejected God!And the consequences of of not being baptised in the name of Jesus are dire.
If you have not accepted Jesus into your life, now is the hour of salvation.Remember that we live in the last days.Make things right with God before it’s too late.
God bless you.
